Congratulations to Bernard Carr, 2023 Jefferson Award winner. WBOC reporter Rachel Pierce surprised him with the announcement of his selection while he was assisting Dr. DrAlisha Broughton and her Church Without Walls in the distribution of more than 1100 coats to those in need in Ellendale DE on MLK Day.

Bernard is very active in his community and the Delaware State University Community. He is a member of the Delaware State University Alumni Association, where he has served as National Vice President and as President of the Sussex Chapter; he is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc, Gamma Upsilon Chapter; a member of Sussex Chapter of the NAACP; Past President of the Harrington, Felton, Greenwood Rotary Club where he has spearheaded many community events;

President of the Trustees at Bridgeville Senior Center(where he is always gifting a senior with a bouquet of flowers or other gifts of love and appreciation); member of Heritage Shores Military Club where each year he sponsors a luncheon that is held after the Memorial Day Service at Union UMC in Bridgeville; member of the Bridgeville Historical Society just to mention a few of his involvement.

He created BwadecarrPHOTOGRAPHY, LLC where he captures all the events at his alma mater, Woodbridge High School, DSU and the surrounding community. He is a free lance photographer for Star Publications in Seaford.

The list goes on and on. It was my honor to nominate him and so grateful that it was presented to him on MLK Holiday.
